THIS WEEKEND: Winter Celebrations, Unique LA Shopping, Giving Back, Auto Fun and Theater for the Holidays

TONIGHT! FRIDAY

Downtown Burbank Holiday Cheer:   Downtown Burbank kicks off a month-long celebration filled with free seasonal events from December 1 through January 1, 2013. It all begins with the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of City Hall on Saturday, December 1 at 6 p.m. followed by Santa’s Downtown Wonderland from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.  Walk down San Fernando Boulevard under magical snowfall lights to the 36 foot walk-through Christmas tree at the AMC Walkway, where families can have free Santa photos. There will be  and a special appearance by Disney XD star Kelli Berglund (stars as Bree on “Lab Rats”). The Radio Disney AM 1110 Road Crew will provide holiday-themed interactive entertainment, music and prizes as part of their Fa-la-la-lidays seasonal programming.

SATURDAY

Million Dollar Listing’s Josh Altman Jacket and Blanket Donation Drive at Salon Nuuvo: Salon Nuuvo in Calabasas will host a ‘donation drive’ for Food on Foot, a non-profit that assists the homeless.  Stop by on Saturday December  from 10:30 a.m. – noon and meet Josh Altman, one of the stars from Bravo TV’s hit show “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles,”  who will make a special appearance for the cause. He will be available to sign autographs and take pictures.  Blankets and jackets can be dropped at Salon Nuuvo from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Maddy’s Market will provide the hors d’oeuvres and Salon Nuuvo will have cotton candy, and musical entertainment.  Salon Nuuvo is  owned by  celebrity stylist Raychel Harrsion and her husband Audley Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist in boxing.  ”Food on Foot does a tremendous job of clothing and feeding the homeless in downtown Los Angeles. I’m hopeful the community will get behind this initiative and help keep the homeless warm this winter,”  said Raychel Harrison. http://www.salonnuuvo.com

Whizin Market Square Holiday Faire: There’s an abundance of goodies to boost your holiday spirit at the Whizin Market Square Holiday Faire in Agoura on Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m. -4 p.m.  Gather round the Christmas tree and sample teas and food bites,  free yoga for kids, get merchant discounts and deals,  pick up a raffle ticket to win gift certificates for dining, spa treatments, dance, yoga and fitness classes, accessories and  items for the home, a live 7 foot Noble Christmas tree – and more! Kanan exit off the 101 at the corner of Roadside and Cornell.
Little Stars Family Art Event: Cella Gallery in North Hollywood  is presenting a very special art show based on Peter Pan. for kids of all ages who believe in magic and fairies and never growing old. Featuring new work by Wendy Crabb, Thea and Daniel Saks and introducing original works by children’s author and illustrator Johanna Wright (Bandits, The Secret Circus). The opening reception is Saturday, December 1 from 2 p.m. -5 pm. Free story readings for Peter Pan, unique arts & crafts, touchable art, paintings, sculpture and tea & cookies. Tujunga-Moorpark Village Open House: This Studio City street with small town charm is having its annual holiday open house from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.   Meet up with your neighbors, meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, see strolling singers,  peruse the shops for discounts, deals,  free tastes, holiday entertainment and more. . 4GOOD Adopt-a-Family and Gift Wrapping Event: This holiday season 4GOOD will once again work with Friends and Helpers to provide much needed gifts for abused women and their children. This is a great way to teach our children about giving back to the community and that this kindness & support will give another family something to celebrate this Holiday Season! Winter Family Festival and Radio Disney’s Festival of Giving: Celebrate the holidays and give back to the community on Sunday, December 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Studio City Recreation Center (aka Beeman Park). There will be  more than 60 tons of snow, music by local school bands, arts &crafts, restaurant samplings at A Taste of the Holidays, Radio Disney Road Crew, plus food trucks, face painting and more.   The free event also includes Radio Disney AM 1110′s Festival of Giving, a convenient way for kids and families to help others this holiday season by bringing donations of canned/packaged food; new, unwrapped toys; new/used children’s books; clothing, backpacks and baby items; pet food, pet toys and pet supply gift cards, and more.  This one-stop-giving location benefits the North Hollywood LAPD North Hollywood Division Gift and Food Drive; the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry; St. Charles Service Center; BookEnds; Pet Orphans; and OneVoice LA.  Admission is free. Skirball Hanukkah Festival: Celebrate freedom, justice, and democracy at the Skirball’s annual Hanukkah family festival on Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.  Enjoy food, music, crafts, storytelling and more. This year, the festivities take inspiration from the exhibition Creating the United States. Families of all backgrounds welcome!  Adults $10; Seniors, Students $7; Children under 12, free.

HOLIDAY THEATRE

Christmas My Way: A Sinatra Holiday Bash! at the El Portal:  Broadway performers Jason Graae, Heather Lee and Beth Malone along with Sinatra-like crooner Luca Ellis to serve up cool versions of Sinatra mainstays. Joined by a swingin’ live band, they sing Sinatra Christmas hits like “Mistletoe and Holly,” “The Christmas Song,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Silver Bells” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” So, get set for a fresh, energetic groovy Sinatra Christmas, with 40 classic hits perfect for the holidays.  Opens December 13 and runs though New Years Eve (with a special celebration).

Rudolph the Red-Nose ReinDOORS at the  Falcon Theatre: It’s another hilarious production by  the Troubadour Theater Company when our favorite reindeer meets up with the music of The Doors.  Rudolph the Red-Nose ReinDOORS, directed by Matt Walker, the third production of its 2012-2013 Subscription Season. Celebrate the Season with the Ovation Award-winning Troubies as they give a wild, stripped-down, bare bones, rock re-telling of the classic holiday tale of Rudolph, with a sexy, sultry, scary soundtrack of DOORS style music – and snow.

A Christmas Carol at the Grove Theatre: Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, Marley’s Ghost, Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future all make their appearance as  three actors guides the audience through the story – sometimes as narrators, sometimes as storytellers, and sometimes as characters, but always using the actual words of Charles Dickens. The show runs approximately 80 minutes with no intermission  and is perfect for all ages from 12 to 102! Runs through December 16 Thu, Fri & Sat at 8 pm; Sun at 3 pm. Save $10 per ticket with discount code “Dickens” when ordering.

OVER THE HILL

Unique LA Holiday Show:  It’s so worth the drive to the  largest independent-design show in the country. There will be over  350 designers and artisans showing their wares  at California Market Center downtown. Workshops, a cafe serving up dishes from local food trucks and restaurants, special giveaways and more. 11 a.m.–6 p.m. each day . $10. California Market Center, 110 E. 9th St.

L.A. Auto Show: This annual show runs through December 9. Check out the latest and greatest at the  L.A. Convention Center downtown. Check out more than 1,000 car makes and models, including more than 40 debuts, plus cutting-edge race cars and alternative fuel vehicles. M–F 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun 9 a.m.–8 p.m. $12, free for children 12 and under. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St.
